When a project scope changes or a contract is approaching its end date, you don’t need to create a proposal from scratch. Quikly supports two document modes that reference an existing proposal:
  • Addendum — modifies specific terms of an existing agreement (scope changes, rate adjustments, timeline extensions).
  • Renewal — extends or replaces an expiring engagement with updated terms (new duration, team changes, rate updates).
Both modes inherit settings from the parent document (client, currency, rate, theme, language) and generate their own terms, pricing, and clauses.

When to use each

ScenarioDocument mode
Client wants to add features to a running projectAddendum
Hourly rate needs to be adjusted mid-projectAddendum
You need to extend the timeline without changing scopeAddendum
A staff augmentation contract is expiring and the client wants to continueRenewal
A retainer agreement needs to be renewed with updated team compositionRenewal
A T&M engagement is rolling over to a new periodRenewal
Renewals are available for engagement types that have a recurring nature: Staff Augmentation, Retainer, and Time & Materials.

Creating an addendum

You can create an addendum from two places:
  1. From a deal’s Documents tab — click + New document, then select Create addendum. If the deal has multiple proposals, you’ll be asked to pick which one to modify.
  2. From the proposal list — click the menu on any proposal and select Create addendum.
Both entry points open the editor with the parent proposal pre-loaded.

Addendum wizard steps

1

Type

The document mode is pre-set to Addendum and the parent document is linked. You’ll see this confirmed in the type selector.
2

Scope changes

A banner shows the parent document name, date, and status. You can expand the original scope for reference. Enter the reason for the addendum and add new or modified requirements.
3

Addendum pricing

Choose a pricing mode:
  • Additional — the addendum price adds to the original total.
  • Revised — the new total replaces the original.
  • No change — scope changes only, no pricing impact.
The summary shows the original total, the delta, and the revised total.
4

Terms

An incorporation clause is auto-generated, referencing the parent document by name and date. You can add additional clauses as needed.

Creating a renewal

Renewals follow the same entry points as addendums. The Create renewal option appears only for proposals whose type is Staff Augmentation, Retainer, or Time & Materials.

Renewal wizard steps

1

Type

The document mode is pre-set to Renewal and the parent document is linked.
2

Extension

A summary of the current contract shows the project name, total value, type, and status. Enter the new duration (in months), start date, and end date. The end date auto-calculates from the start date and duration. Optionally add a reason for renewal.
3

Team

Team members from the parent document are listed with checkboxes to keep or remove each one. You can adjust rates per member and add new members. An optional section lets you describe scope changes.
4

Terms

A continuity clause is auto-generated, stating that all original terms carry forward except as modified. You can add additional clauses.

What gets inherited from the parent

When you create an addendum or renewal, the following fields are pre-filled from the parent proposal:
  • Client name and location
  • Currency and hourly rate
  • Proposal language
  • Proposal type
  • Theme and font settings
You can override any of these in the editor.

Preview and PDF

Addendums and renewals have their own header in both the live preview and exported PDF:
  • Addendum: a highlighted banner with “ADDENDUM #N — [parent name]” and the addendum reason.
  • Renewal: a highlighted banner with “RENEWAL AGREEMENT #N — [parent name]” and the renewal period.
The terms section includes the auto-generated incorporation or continuity clause before any additional clauses you’ve added.

Document numbering

Each addendum or renewal linked to the same parent gets an auto-incremented document number. The first addendum to a proposal is #1, the second is #2, and so on. This number appears in the preview header and PDF.
